Daniel Sandu Rhythm, Romania, and Roma Workshop
Thursday, January 21, 2010, 7 PM-10 PM

Daniel Sandu was born in Bucharest in 1967 and began dancing with Romanasul ensemble at age six. In 1978 at age 11 he accompanied the Romanian delegation to a world dance ensemble in Cuba and was the only child performer in any of the ensembles. In 1985 at age 18 became a professional dancer with the Romanian national folkloric ensemble, Rapsodia Romana, where he dance full time for the next seven years.

In 1992 he auditioned for and won a position at Het Internationaal Danstheater in Amsterdam. Founded in 1961, it is one of the largest professional folklore ensembles in the world with 70 members, including 30 dancers and six musicians. The company gives approximately 200 performances per year in The Netherlands and abroad. In 2003 Daniel obtained a Bachelor of Dance Education degree from the Rotterdamse Dansacademie. Since that time, he has worked full time in teaching recreational and professional dancing in The Netherlands and elsewhere. He has served on staff at both the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg and the High School (University) for the Arts in Amsterdam. (read more about Daniel at www.DanielSandu.com)
