West Coast Wooden Kayak Rendezvous -- R2K2

Part of the Friday lineup.

R2K2 was held once again in Port Townsend, Washington and hosted by Joe Greenley of Redfish Kayaks. This year, the Rendezvous began on Friday with a lineup of boats and plenty of change to paddle.

This Outer Island sported an inlaid Martini glass, and some modification to the forms aft of the cockpit.

Apparently there isn't enough water in New Mexico to cause Roger to cover this fine looking frame.

In addition to attending the Rendezvous, I got a change to do a little whitewater on the way north, and several days surfing on the way home. I should have enough wood now to do 3 or 4 more boats. Wonderful straight grained stuff for the price of knotty lumber in Phoenix.

I passed on the chance to pick up some green wood on the way home. The driver had it all laid out for easy inspection, but it looked too much like fence posts for my tastes. Note: no injuries, but about 90 minutes road closure on 101 Monday morning.
