01 of 40. This year I got the opportunity to spend over a month wandering up the west coast for a couple special canoe trips as well as some ferry-based daydreaming for future trips. I departed after work on Thursday, June 28th.

I got to Park Moabi about 9:15 p.m. (A San Bernardino County Park) - a bit slower than Mapquest suggested but they didn't take the Phoenix rush hour traffic into account. The car thermometer says it's still 98 degrees but doesn't feel that warm. I'd forgotten about two things when I picked Park Moabi as the first night - this park is fairly low elevation sandwiched between the California deserts and the Colorado River = warm, and it's located on a major trans-continental rail line so we'll have trains running past all night long. Earplugs left over from a Green River jetboat shuttle worked wonders! Picnic table made a great spot for the sleeping bag.
