| 26 of 26. Thursday morning we launched a bit early and didn't stop at Arcadia as originally planned. This got us closer to max flood in Hammersley Inlet - made for a nice easy paddle to Walker County Park for our takeout where we were met by three of the wives, loaded up the gear, and headed to the Pine Tree Cafe in Shelton for breakfast.
As expected, there were some tide rips between Hope and Arcadia as the current came around both sides of the island. It likely would have been a smoother ride to depart Hope around the east side of the island past Potlatch point. We did the trip this direction since currents in Hammersley were significantly less than those early in the week. This gave the guys several days in their boats to get comfortable. While there are noticable eddies in Hammersley as well as potential tide rips between Arcadia and Hope Island, I can certainly understand why the "Shelton Shuttle" through Hammersley is a local favorite when the current is running strong. |
