Pumpkin
Mini-Book (pdf) The activities includes: draw a
pumpkin, predict how many pumpkin
seeds there will be, how many pumpkin seeds there are, what your seeds
looked like (you can glue the seeds on the paper), what the pumpkin
looks like inside, and a funny picture of
a pumpkin.
Note: The parent (or teacher) will need to cut the pumpkin
in half.
Pumpkin Activities
Read: Pumpkin, Pumpkin by Jeanne
Titherington (or any other
book).
Talk about the different stages of a pumpkin. (The seed comes
first. The sprout comes second. The plant comes third.
The flower comes fourth. The green pumpkin comes fifth. And
finally, the orange pumpkin comes sixth.)
Make a pumpkin.
Pumpkin Craft
Place the fronts of two paper plates together. Hole punch holes
around the sides and bottom. Have the children lace their
pumpkins with orange yarn. Tie off the ends (younger children
need help). (You can staple it but this helps children with
hand and eye coordination.) Paint (or color) both sides of the
pumpkin orange (or you can make orange finger prints on the
pumpkin). (You can paint a face if you like.) Make green
leaves and a brown stem out of construction paper (You can do this
ahead of time for younger children.) Glue the leaves onto the
sides of the stem and glue the stem under the top front of the pumpkin.
For older children:
Place words of the life cycle of a pumpkin inside the pumpkin (seed,
sprout, plant, flower, green pumpkin, orange pumpkin). Have the
child pull it out and say the word and place it in the correct order on
a table or the floor. You can have the child write down the
correct order that the pumpkin grows onto a piece of paper.
