Ten Apples Up On Top!
Read: Ten Apples Up On Top! Have the
children count the apples as you read the story.
Place a large apple tree and have a child(ren) place ten red apples
numbered 1-10 on it. Count as you do it.
Apple Craft
Use the apple pattern at Preschool
Express: Apple Patterns. Cut the apple out of red paper.
Cut a green leaf. Cut a brown stem and glue onto the back
of the apple. Make finger prints using your favorite color of
paint. Hole punch a hole and
hang using yarn.
Apple Tree Craft
Take a 9-inch paper plate. Make a brown trunk (with a larger
bottom).
Glue it onto the back of the paper plate. (For older children (or
homeschooling), have the children tear some brown construction paper
for the trunk and
glue it on a white trunk.) Fingerprint with red, green, and/or
yellow
paint (or glue pieces of paper) onto the paper plate. (If
desired,
you can number ten of the painted or glued on apples.)
Apple Tree
Author unknown
Way up in the apple tree
Two red apples smiled at me
I shook that tree as hard as I could
Down came the apples
Mmmm - were they good!
As you say this fingerplay, have the children place their hands
above
them (connecting their fingers together) to form a apple tree.
Show 2 fingers and smile.
Shake the tree.
Drop two rolled up red socks (parent/teacher at first and then have
each child take turns).
Rub tummy (stomach).
Way Up High (In The Apple Tree) is on "Toddler Trio" or as a
separate CD called "Silly Favorites". I found "Silly Favorites"
at Walmart.
The above fingerplay is a little different. It also has other
verses on the CD.
Ten Little Apples Book
Make an apple tree shaped book.
On the cover and the first page, write, "Ten (10) Little
Apples".
On the left hand side of the book, number each page through the number
"10".
Have the child paint the correct number of apples on each page.
(For older children, you can have them tear and glue the correct number
of pieces of red construction paper onto the page.) In the inside, glue
the words
on the opposite side of the cover.
If you don't know the tune of this song, go to Kidz
Korner: Ten Little Indians or NIEHS: Ten
Little Indians.
Ten Little Apples Song and Flannel Board Activity
Trace around a small round object using a pencil (or use a circle
pattern).
Cut out ten apples using red (or green or yellow) felt.
Make
a tree trunk using brown felt and the a large green piece (for the
leaves)
using green felt.
Have the children place them on the flannel board as this song is
sung.

Ten Little Apple Seeds Book
Make an apple book called, "Ten (10) Little Apple Seeds". On
the cover and the first page, write, "10 Little Apple Seeds". On
the
left hand side of the book, number each page through the number
"10".
Have the child paint the correct number of seeds on each page.
(For
older children, you can have them glue pieces of brown yarn or apple
seeds.)
In the inside, glue the words on the opposite side of the cover.
If you don't know the tune of this song, go to Children's
Songs or Kid Songs.

Math Activities
Apple Graphing
Have each child bring in his/her favorite type of apple. On a
large piece of paper, graph the type (or color) each child likes. Have
the children count each type (or color) of apple.
Apple Toss
Roll up different colors of socks (red, green, and/or yellow).
Have the child toss the sock apples into a basket or box.
Have the child count as he/she throws it into the basket or box.
After the child
is done throwing the socks, have he/she count how many landed into the
basket or box.
Apple Number Game
(File Folder)
1. Trace 22 apple shape from a cookie cutter or an apple
pattern onto paper, construction paper, or a blank index card.
2. Cut them out.
3. If you don't use red paper, use a red crayon to color the
apple cards. Color the stems brown. On one set, make seeds
using a
brown crayon or colored pencil.
4. Write the numbers (0, 1, 2, ...) on one set of apples
and draw the number of seeds on another set of apples. (For the
number
"0", just leave it blank.)
5. Laminate the cards and file folder (at least put some
clear laminate paper where the tape will be placed).
6. Place 6 pieces of double sided tape in the inside part of a
file folder and 5 pieces of tape on the other side.
(If you want, you can make another file folder game (or more) for
11-20, 21-30, etc.)
7. Place the cards in ascending order on the pieces of tape.
8. Write the name of the game (and picture of an apple) on the
flap. (You can write the directions on the front of the file
folder.)
9. Tape an index card (you might need to cut it some) onto the
right side of the opened folder (on the bottom right hand side).
Place
the cards inside there.
Another option: Hole punch two holes in the back of a small sealable
bag. Place a piece of yarn through it. Tie off on the back
of the
file folder. Place the apple cards into the bag on the right side
of
the opened folder (on the bottom right hand side).
10. Have the child match the correct card with the other card.
For older children, you can make another set of cards and write the
number words on the apples. Have the child match either the
number (0, 1, 2, ...) or the number of seeds.
* I like using double sided tape because you can take them off and have
the child put the numbers in the correct order on a table or floor.

are other activities at the end of the pdf file.)
Find the star in the apple. Cut it across, not up and down or
you won't see the star. (You can read the poem, "The Apple Star" (at
the bottom of the page) as you cut the apples.)
Eat one side of the apple and keep the other side for this craft:
Apple Stamping
Cut the apple across. Dry off with a paper towel. Take a
paint brush and paint on the apple. Stamp your apple onto a piece of
paper.
Let dry.

Game
Apple Number Game
Take a cookie cutter or Preschool
Express: Apple Patterns (reduce them some so you can get a lot on
one page)
and trace or copy 20 of them. Color them red and the stem
brown.
Number 10 of them, "1, 2, ... 10. The other 10, draw 1 apple
seed,
2 apple seeds, ... 10 apple seeds on them. Laminate or place
clear
contact paper on them. Have the child place them in order.
If
they are older and/or understand the concept of matching the number
with
the number of seeds, have them do that too.
Note: You can make this a file folder game.

The Worm Went Through the Apple
Copyright © 2002 Barbara Pratt. All rights reserved.
Tune of: "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow"
To hear the tune, click here.
Have one child or adult be a worm and the other be an apple. Have
the worm go through the apple (between the legs).
The worm went through the apple, the worm went through the apple.
The worm went through the apple, to see what he could see.
And all that he could see, and all that he could see
Was the other side of the apple, the other side of the apple
The other side of the apple, was all that he could see.
