This beautiful little poem was written by P. H. Weichbrodt on his sister, Caroline Dorthea Weichbrodt's marriage to Carl Gottlieb Steffens [1750-1825]. It was printed and bound in this green embroidered silk booklet. The translation was kindly done by E. Shulz, the book was generously donated from Alfhard Kowallek.
To the joy of God the Almighty, who created Man, the noblest creation on earth; upon his mercy, we were, before abiding adulthood, conformed to his good council.

And if we follow the sign of providence, which is led out to us, so we will find prepared the way to fortune.

This route you will follow today I am sure, the happiest day of your life, on the hand of your fiancé, to whom you are associated in noble-minded heart, resemblance of spirit and tenderness.

He is the one with whom you build your earthly happiness, in that you find every wish fulfilled.

In festive attire you join with him in the everlasting pleasant bondage, you give him the evidence of the marital faithfulness, forever and ever your tender hand. And so you await that most beautiful present, God’s love and blessing.

We are touched by your luck, although our eyes will be blurred by the thought that your charming nature will not inspire us so often. Your silent, soft jokes and your sisterly love are taken away from us as you go. For a long time our house will miss you, although we know that you are happy, cheerful and in love.

When the hope of our mother, the blessing of our father, and the happiness of our grandparents bears on their grandchild, when chaste makes you happy, when on the pathway of virtues the peace of mind and courageousness lives, then your marriage will be the happiest on earth and the wishes of your brother will be fulfilled.
