The Niles/McGovern Connection

John Henry (Jack) NILES was born 30 Jan 1849 in Smithfield, Prov. Co., Rhode Island, and died on 30 Jan 1921 in Freeport, Stephenson, Co., Illinois He was buried 2 Feb 1921 in the Ridott Cemetery, Ridott Illinois. He was a carpenter. and lived at 20 Howard St.,Freeport, IL.

His death certificate reports his death cause as carcinoma involving left eye socket. Paul Edward & Pamela Niles (a descendant of John Henry Niles) placed a tomb stone on the graves of John Henry and Nancy Milton Niles grave on Easter, 1998. John Henry and his father Jeremiah were often hired-men at Caleb Brown's mill on the Pecatonica River between Ridott and Freeport.

John Henry married Nancy Johnson MILTON on 2 Aug 1874. She was born on 15 Jun 1853 at East Riding, Sickesorn, Yorkshire County, England and died 5 Jul 1944 in Freeport. The family moved to Wolbach, Greeley County Nebraska about 1880; returned to Ridott, IL between 1890 and 1893.
