Bernard McGovern

Born in Ireland in 1826, Bernard emigrated to the United States in 1849. His parents, Patrick McGovern and Catherine Dolan were also born in Ireland. There is some question about whether they were from Ballinamor, County Leitrim or nearby County Roscommon. He emigrated to the U.S. through New Orleans and it was said that he lost an eye in a fight in his younger days.

Bernard married Anna Mary Blake, born 31 Oct 1838, District Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1845, could read, write and speak English. Bernard and Anna were married in the United States. She died Spring 1902

They had 11 children, 6 were alive in 1900.
