FastQ Implements Advanced Tools to help fight the "War on Spam"

Phoenix, AZ May 12th, 2006 – FastQ Communications, Arizona's longest-running Internet service provider, has implemented advanced systems to fight back against Spam.   Recently completed, FastQ's state of the art system filters more than 99% of the Spam sent to its customers.

"In 1993 when we first started providing Internet services there was no Spam," said Dan Schnur, Operations Manager for FastQ.  "Commercial use of the Internet was in its infancy, e-mail systems were open and people were trusted to follow strict standards of behavior.  The last decade has brought massive changes to the Internet, and today Spam is a major problem for everyone with an e-mail address.  Now, everybody needs advanced tools to help keep their mail boxes clean."

Spam is not just a problem for home users, but it is also a growing and expensive problem for businesses.  Although there are many sources of statistics, nearly every one agrees, Spam costs billions of dollars each year in lost productivity, costly software, and personnel  to help combat the problem.  Since January, the amount of Spam blocked by FastQ has grown more than five hundred percent. "It's not uncommon that we block more than two million Spams per week from reaching our clients," said Schnur.  "We feel its our obligation to our customers and something that differentiates us from our competition."

FastQ's filtering service is intended to save it's users time and reduce expense by using multiple filtering methods including black-lists, pattern matching, and advanced filtering software to block Spam before it gets to their e-mail boxes.  "It's not possible to eliminate all Spam, but we hope to reduce the cost and amount of time our users spend dealing with it," Schnur said.
