Note: If you use salted margarine, omit the salt.
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, and
salt. Mix with
a spoon. Add the shortening (or margarine), vanilla, and eggs.
Slowly add the milk
(or water) to the mixture. Beat on low until combined. Beat
on high for about 2
minutes. Pour into a greased and floured 9x13 inch pan.
Bake in a 350 degree F.
oven for 30-35 minutes or until tooth pick comes out clean. Let
cool. Frost. Serve.
Note: If you are not on a dairy-free diet, you can use cow's milk.
