Gifts
from Barbara
-Draw a picture for your mother.
-Write your own poem and illustrate it for your mother.
-Do something for your mother without her asking you to do it.

Flower Gift:
Take a flower pattern (or draw a flower yourself) onto construction paper or thick paper.  Color it.  Tape a craft stick, chop stick, or straw (you can staple it) onto the back of the flower for the stem. Cut off a picture of yourself (to be round). (Make sure to ask permission do to it from your father if you are doing it at home.)  Tie ribbon or yarn around them and give your mother (grandmother) as a bunch of flowers from her children (grandchildren) or give her one if you want.  You can place a piece of magnet strip on the back and it can also be placed on the refrigerator so everyone can see it.

Flower Patterns: flower pattern @ activityvillage, DLTK's Daisies (You can use the smiling daisy and fold it over for a double sided flower.  Place the craft stick, chop stick, or straw in between the two daisies. Tape it together.)

Other Resources

From Andrea in my fhe4children group
Growing up, we always did something special for mother's day, father's day, and the Sunday of a family member's birthday.  We gathered together photos of them and had them sit in the center of the room with a display all about them.  Then we spent the family home evening focusing on them.  We would play games to see who knew them the best (such as trivia questions).  It was always really fun to learn new facts about people we thought we knew inside and out!

"A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove... but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child."
