Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown

1.  Read a “moon” nursery rhyme.
2.  Sing a star song.
3.  Say what you would tell goodnight to.  Goodnight ...

5.  Have older children write as many  words as they can that rhyme with:
room: broom, boom, doom, zoom
cow: bow, how, now, wow
moon: soon
bear: pear, tear
clock: block, dock, mock, rock, sock
air: fair, hair, pair

Moondance by Frank Asch

1.  Science: During the day: Look at the clouds.  During the night: Look at the moon and stars.
2.  Art: Draw a picture of the sky.
3.  Music/Physical Education: Dance to some music.
4.  Wash some dishes.
5.  If you have a puddle nearby, look at your reflection.
You can also go to a nearby pond, lake, river, ocean, etc. and look at your reflection.

Moon Snacks: Home Economics (Cooking)

Moon Sugar Cookies #1
Make round sugar cookies or dairy-free sugar cookiesFrost the cookies with white frosting.  Sprinkle some granulated sugar or cinnamon sugar on the cookies.  Bake

Moon Sugar Cookies #2
Make sugar cookies.  Sprinkle some cinnamon sugar or granulated sugar on the cookies so they look like craters.  Bake.


If you like, you can make Snickerdoodles (they have cinnamon and sugar on top of them).

Moon Biscuits
Make biscuits or dairy-free biscuits but use 3 tablespoons of sugar instead of 1 1/2 tablespoons.  Sprinkle some sugar (or cinnamon sugar) on the biscuits.  Bake.

Make snowball cookies (Mexican Wedding Cakes), donut holes, or round sopaipillas or dairy-free sopaipillas.  Put some granulated sugar, ground cinnamon and granulated, or powdered sugar in a bag.  Shake.  Place the cookies or sopaipillas in the bag and shake.

Science, Art, & Language Arts (Writing)
Go outside and find the moon (if you can see it).  Look at it.  What does it look like? On a piece of paper or science notebook, draw and write when you saw the moon and describe the moon.

Moon Crafts

Moon Craft #1
Cut a circle out light colored construction paper.  (For a further view of the moon, use white or gray paint.  For a closer view of the moon, use light brown (mix white with brown paint).

With a hole punch, punch a hole through the paper.  Place some yarn through the hole. Have the child use sponges or crumbled up paper towels (or napkins) to make moon craters.  Let dry.
