Physical Education
Penguin Walk
Place your hands by your sides.  You can move your arms some and walk slowly like a penguin.  You can play slow music while you do this.

Arts & Crafts
Talk about different penguins.  Read  a book(s).  Look at different types of penguins and design your penguin accordingly.  You can make a funny looking penguin if you choose to do so (like "Tacky the Penguin").  Have fun!

This is a messy but fun art project.  Children enjoy working with feathers.  You will need to work with younger children.

Time: 50-60 minutes

With your shoe on or off (or one of both), place your foot (or feet) onto a black piece of construction paper.  Trace around the foot (or feet) with white chalk (or crayon). Cut it (them) out with scissors.  Glue onto a piece of blue construction paper (the smaller part of the paper is the head).  Glue construction paper (or cut-up feathers or construction paper) for eyes, legs, beak, wings, and legs. For the Macaroni penguin, glue cut-up yellow feathers (or cut-up pieces of construction paper or add some yellow paint) to the top of the head and glue cut-up feathers or use construction paper for the eyes. For the King penguin, glue cut-up orange and blue feathers or construction paper (or you can use paint) onto the penguin.  Finger paint white feathers onto the penguin and around the penguin for falling snow.  Let dry.

Construction Paper Penguin
Cut a piece of black construction paper and glue it into a cylinder.  Cut another one (about half the size of the other one) and glue it into a cylinder.  Add a rounded white piece of construction paper to the large cylinder (about the size of the smaller piece of black construction paper).  Glue the smaller cylinder on top of the larger cylinder.  Hole punch two white eyes.  Glue it on the head and color them with black crayon to make pupils.  Cut two black wings.  Make some smaller white wings and glue it onto the black wings.
Glue the wings onto the penguin.  Fold a piece of orange construction paper in half and cut it into a triangle to make a beak.  Glue it onto the head.  Cut some webbed feet and glue it on the bottom of the penguin.  Cut a tail for the penguin and glue it on the bottom
of the penguin in the back.  Crease it up a little.  Date it and put the child's name on it.

Egg Carton Penguin
Cut off one cup from a cardboard egg carton.  Paint the front part of the carton cup with white tempera paint and let dry.  Paint around the white with black tempera paint and let dry. Cut a small orange triangle for the beak.  Cut 2 webbed feet for the feet.  Glue the beak and feet onto the penguin.  Add 2 wiggle eyes.  Date it and put the child's name on it.
