Teaching Procedure

Apples are Red.
Oranges are Orange.
Bananas are Yellow.

Apples, oranges, and bananas
are fruits that are yummy.

The children say the rhyme in a stedy beat speaking voice.
The word yummy is said a little longer.  Yum------my.

Version 2

Teaching Procedure

Apples are red, oranges are orange, bananas are yellow.
Apples, oranges, and bananas are fruits that are yummy.

1.  Say entire rhyme in a steady beat speaking voice.  Use a steady beat by patting your hands on your legs after each beat.

2.  Ask students for movements for yummy.
     * Example: Put your hand over your tummy.

3.  Say the rhyme with the class by doing the movements for yummy.

4.  Ask what the three different fruits are (apples, oranges, bananas).  Decide which actions to use for each fruit.
     * Example:  Use your arms or legs for each.

5.  Have the class say entire rhyme with the different movements.

6.  Have the class think of new ideas for the rhyme.  Create movements for each.  Say and do the new rhyme and movements.

     * Example: Vegetables: radishes, carrots, corn
