Musical Objectives: At the end of this activity the students will:
-Sing a song by rote (for older children)
-Imitate animal sounds, using the voice in high and low registers

Materials Needed: Book, Song & Flash cards with the names of the animals from the song on them; in English and in Spanish
Lesson Sequence
Anticipatory Set: "What animals do we see when we go to a farm? I'm going to read you a story about a boy who wanted a farm. Listen closely as I read it to you.
1. Read a book about farms or farm animals.
2. Read the book again and ask the children to tell you what kinds of animals Alfie bought. Then ask the students: "What did Alfie name his cow?" (wait for children's responses.) and then ask: "Why did Sally not give milk?" (wait for children's responses?"
3. Tell the children, "Now we are going to learn a song about a farm."
Teaching the Song
4. Sing the entire song for the children. Tell the students the farms animals in the song are in Spanish.
Ask the following questions:
What does "pollito," "patito," "burrito," "chanchito," "perrito," and "gatito" mean in English? (Wait for the children's responses after each animal.) Yes, a "pollito" is a chick, a "patito" is a baby duck, a "burrito" is a donkey, a "chanchito" is a pig, a "perrito" is a puppy and a "gatito" is a kitten.
What sound do each of the animals make? (Name each animal and ask what sound they make.)
5. Sing each line of the song and ask the children to echo you.
6. Sing two lines together and ask the children to echo you.
7. Sing the song and ask the children to sing it back to you.
Closure: "Songs can have the same words that
repeats
more than once. Who can tell me some lines in the song that are
repeated?
"What does the words: "pollito," "patito," "burrito," "chanchito,"
"perrito,"
and "gatito" mean? Now, each of you will be able to say the name of the
animal
in Spanish if you see that animal.
