We are all familiar with these stories: The Ugly Duckling, The Emperors New Suit, and The Little Mermaid.  Some others that Hans Andersen wrote were: The Brave Tin Soldier, The Story Of A Mother, Little Claus And Big Claus, The Garden of Paradise, The Loveliest Rose in the world, The Nightingal,. and many more.  Hans Christian Andersen was born on April 2, 1805 in Odense, Denmark.  He died in Copenhagen on August 5, 1875.

The Ugly Duckling Story Bag/Box

2.  Stories:

3. Play "Le Cygne (The Swan)" on the Carnival of Animals / Carnival Des Animaux by Camille Saint-Saens while reading the book or story.  You can go to Karadar Classical Music: Le Cygne to listen to another version of this music.
Have the child listen to the music, have him/her use a swan to pretend to swim like a swan in water.
4.  Patterns to tell (or retell) the story:
Make the number of eggs you need using the AEB: Design Your Own Egg.
Use the a duck coloring page.  Make one large mother duck and reduce the size to make 3 smaller duck patterns.  Color 2 of the ducklings yellow and and the bills orange (and the mother's beak).  When the Ugly Duckling is younger, color it gray and the bill and feet black.  Laminate them and tape craft sticks on the back of each duck. When The Ugly Duckling turns into a beautiful swan, use Swan @ TotCity, First-School: Swan Coloring Page (you need to reduce the size), or Bible Based: Kids Explorer - The Swan, color the bill orange and the tip black.
(You can use these instead: Big Duck Pattern, 2 small ducks)
Other animals: swans(small image), turtle (or others), etc. (depending on the book or story used)
5.  Music: The Ugly Duckling Sheet music to part of the song and listen to the song
